Frugal Living Tips

These are some tips that have saved me money over the years so I thought I would pass them on.

Watch great movies and TV without paying theater prices with Amazon Instant Video While I used to like netflix, I have found that  Amazon Instant Video has a much better selection. You can buy shows or movies individually, or you can sign up for Amazon Prime for $79 a year and get unlimited streaming and free 2 day shipping on select amazon goods. Amazon Prime also has a free 30 day trial.

Cheap music! Amazon Music is a great place to buy music legally. Its much better than most services, like itunes, which restrict how you can use the music after you buy it, making it difficult to transfer the music between the devices you own and sometimes locking you out of your own music. Amazon Music allows you to download pure mp3s that are not tired to any specific device or account (aka no DRM).

Free antivirus for windows! Microsoft Security Essentials is a free antivirus scanner that Microsoft makes themselves. You may not of heard of it yet because it has only been out since 2009, however it is quickly become a popular antivirus solution. I personal believe that this virus scanner works better than any other solution out there, including paid ones. It is very light weight, meaning that it does not hog up your computers resources, yet it does an amazing job of defending your computer. Some antivirus companies are charging consumers $60 a year to provide a service that Microsoft now provides for free! Check it out http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security_essentials/default.aspx. Note that you will need to uninstall any current antivirus products that you may have (AKA say good riddance to yearly subscriptions), since almost all antivirus programs cannot be run simultaneously with another one.

Don't forget about all the free stuff and great deals on Craigslist. If you don't know what it is, Craigslist is basically a forum / market place for each major city where people can post things they are selling or giving away.

Ebay, an internet action site, also has many great deals.

Checkout clarkhoward.com. Clark Howard is a consumer advocate with nationally syndicated TV and radio programs. His site has a bargain' section, which includes great deals on travel and consumer money saving tips. Clark Howard also has a great list of coupon, deal a day,  and freebie sites

This is a work in progress, so be sure to check back!
